Tasting Notes and Scores
Bright, dark red. Precise, high-pitched aromas of red cherry, raspberry and flowers accented by a note of blood orange. Delicate, juicy and sharply chiseled, conveying superb inner-mouth verve and lift thanks to the well-judged stem element. Wonderfully intense, dynamic Chambolle premier cru with excellent finishing lift and length.

The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny 1Er Cru les Gruenchers needed a little time to come out of its shell in the glass. It unfolds with granitic scents infusing the carapace of blackberry and bilberry fruit - stoic but fresh and detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite Morey-like in terms of structure. A more masculine than feminine Chambolle-Musigny, it remains fresh and citric with an animated linear finish. It will need several years in bottle, but it should repay those who prefer strictness in their Chambolle.

The Seysses are trying to do sélection massale from this particularly consistent vineyard. Lots there. Really charming in a smoky/fruity way. Lots of char (but not barrel char) to crunch on. Bit of oak still but there is lots to titillate. (JR)
