Tasting Notes and Scores

95.5 ST

Good full medium-dark red. Initially mute nose opens to reveal multidimensional scents of black raspberry, pungent spices, crushed stone, blood orange, lavender, violet and rose petal, with a smoky oak element receding with aeration. Began dense, peppery and unformed but came into shape with extended aeration, showing powerful black raspberry and crushed black cherry fruit, flinty minerality and great floral lift. The wine's impression of tightly coiled energy suggests it will need a minimum of 10 to 12 years of cellaring. This was bottled just prior to my November visit but I was able to taste it again at the beginning of March.
