The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes felt a little too mature on the nose, the precocious red fruit laced with crème de cassis and fig aromas; I would like more delineation here. The palate is fleshy and ripe on the entry, but compared to Fourrier’s other 2018s, this comes across a tad monotone on the finish. Let’s see how it turns out in bottle.

Rich, ripe black fruit with layers of spice and floral tones. Plump fruit, with pretty firm, fine tannins and a flinty, stony thread that gives freshness. Ripe and rich this may be, but it has depth and poise. Impressive length for a village Gevrey. (TJ)
