Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru is more savory on the nose compared to the Vosne Village, perhaps a little sauvage . The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and a smooth texture. Quite opulent in style, showing a touch of vanilla from the oak on the finish that will be assimilated with time. Give this 3–4 years in bottle.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes (Maison Louis Jadot) looks promising, bursting with aromas of blackberries, cassis, sweet soil tones and spices. Medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping with powdery tannins and a lively core of fruit, it concludes with a long, flavorful finish. It's as good a Charmes as I can remember tasting from Jadot.

This isn't quite as spicy though it's still clearly Vosne in basic character with a very pretty combination of ripe red cherry, raspberry and soft floral highlights. The round, plush and fleshy middle weight flavors possess an equally lovely texture that again contrasts somewhat with the dusty and firm finale that is reasonably well-balanced despite a hint of warmth. However, as is usually the case when comparing the wines of Suchots and Les Chaumes, the finish is not nearly as complex.

Cask sample. Bought in fruit. Deep garnet. Doesn’t quite have the raciness of the best Vosnes on the nose although the palate is pretty satisfying. Lots of punch – and a suggestion of oak still. A solid effort rather than other-worldly. (JR)
