Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2016 Volnay Village was reduced to a single cuvée just like it was back in 2012. It has a lovely, detailed bouquet with red cherries, crushed strawberry and crushed stone aromas. The palate is a mixture of Pommard’s structure and the elegance of Volnay, saline in the mouth so that you can feel the saliva flowing. I love the energy and vivid character of this Volnay that will give several years, possibly a decade of drinking pleasure.

Palish medium red. Aromatic scents of redcurrant, cherry and spices. A step up in texture over the regional wines, offering good complexity to the classically dry flavors of red berries, red cherry and spices. Finishes with broad tannins and solid structure. There's no separate Volnay Vendanges Sélectionnées cuvée in 2016, as these vines produced just seven hectoliters per hectare, according to Frédéric Lafarge.

Just one cuvée of Volnay, as in 2012. Mossy notes on the nose and then very polished fruit on the palate. Chewy and with real energy. Lots of fine tannin and earthy terroir-informed fruit. Tension and sculpted texture. Lip-smacking. (JR)
