Good medium red; not crystal-clear. Deep red berry and spice aromas are at once a bit medicinal and liqueur-like, with a note of woodsmoke adding another dimension. A distinctly creamy, even thick 2014 but with menthol and mineral lift to its tart red berry and red cherry fruit. Finishes with big, dusty, ripe tannins and lovely mineral length. This very concentrated, deep Chambolle wine boasts terrific fruit and inner-mouth energy but will need time in bottle to absorb its sweet oak. Strong musky soil tones throughout.

The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Hauts Doix has a fresh red cherry, bergamot and smoke-tinged bouquet that opens nicely with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, quite firm tannin framing raspberry and blackberry fruit, a little masculine in style with a touch of white pepper lingering on the finish. This is what you might describe as a "solid" Chambolle-Musigny.
