Tasting Notes and Scores
Christophe Roumier’s 2009 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de la Bussière 1er Cru is a typical wine for the year. Rich, radiant and luscious, it offers up gorgeous fruit to play off its undeniable Morey structure. The purity of the fruit and textures is just stunning. At thirteen years of age, the 2009 remains a very young, vibrant wine full of life. It will reward readers with another 20 years or so of exceptional drinking, maybe more. Tasting it reminds me of how much things have changed in Burgundy over the last few decades. I remember getting a box of samples of Roumier’s 2009s when this vintage was released! That doesn’t exactly happen these days. This is an exceptionally fine bottle caught at the right moment.

eRobertParker.com April, 2012 The 2009 Morey St. Denis Clos de la Bussiere is a delicious wine at this level. Dark red berries, menthol, spices and licorice wrap around the palate in this surprisingly large-scaled, generous Clos de la Bussiere. My sense is that the 2009 will enjoyed a long drinking window. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. ()

Tasted out of barrel at the Domaine. This has a strict, stony bouquet with darker fruit than the Chambolle-Musigny. Very good definition once again, but it will need time to open. The palate has a penetrating entry with dark cherry, raspberry leaf and a touch of pepper with firm tannins towards the straight-laced finish. Moderate length. Fine. Tasted January 2011.

A very ripe nose speaks of cassis and liqueur of black raspberries that introduce the rich, intense and solidly voluminous flavors that possess a seductive mouth feel as the sap completely buffers the firm and ever-so-mildly rustic tannins on the impressively persistent finish. This should be excellent. Outstanding. Drink: 2017+

(not yet racked; the malo only finished in September) Good deep color. The nose shows an almost chocolatey ripeness to the briary black fruit and pepper flavors; more rustic than the Chambolle but very Morey in character. At once sweet and peppery in the mouth, with good density to its dark fruit flavors. Finishes dry and classic, with more obvious tannic structure than the Chambolle villages, but this is plenty ripe.
