Tasting Notes and Scores
(just five barrels made, including three from young vines in the premier cru Santenots; tasted from barrel): Bright medium red. Aromas and flavors of strawberry and red licorice. Reasonably supple in the middle palate, showing complicating notes of spices and underbrush. Appears to have just enough fat to support its somewhat dusty tannins.

The 2016 Volnay Villages is comprised this year of one barrel of village and four barrels of premier cru (namely Mitans and Santenots). It has a pretty bouquet of redcurrant and wild strawberry fruit, a little confit-like in style and nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe red berry fruit tinged with marmalade and orange rind, leading to a linear and focused finish. Not bad, but a little conservative for a Volnay.

Bright raspberry colour. Interesting nose, mainly from Grands Champs near Mitans. Lots of frost so this contains a little Mitans. Young vines of Santenots too. Very fresh and lively and juicy. Really exciting and racy. GV ? (JR)
