The 2018 Santenay Les Hâtes, which comes from the sloped part of the vineyard on hard limestone, has a bright raspberry and wild strawberry bouquet that is floral in style. The palate is supple and tender, with tart red fruit, lovely acidity and superb precision on the finish. More like a Premier Cru, to be frank.

This, from a relatively high plot near Clos des Mouches, was deliberately served before the Cuvée S. Scented and really rather beautiful. Polished tannins and sumptuous fruit. Great stuff and fabulous value. Seductive and velvety. Now awkwardness of youth. VGV (JR)
