Tasting Notes and Scores
An off-dry riesling beauty with very attractive white-flower and white-fruit aromas, a hint of green-apple freshness lifting the medium-bodied palate. Precise balance at the long, clean finish. Drink or hold. SP
James Suckling
Apple seed and apple wood accents lend decisive counterpoint on both nose and palate to the 2020 Riesling Scharzhof’s dominant, crunchy apple and zesty lemon fruit. Suggestions of apple blossom hover throughout. The feel is firm, and the lingering finish offers refreshment as well as stimulating cut and piquancy. (The source vineyards for this large cuvée are once again largely Saarburger Rausch, Wiltinger Braunfels and Oberemmeler Rosenberg.)

A cool and gentle fragrance combines delicate aromas of sweet apple and citrus fruit with just a dusting of icing sugar. Egon Müller does not do trocken, but the Scharzhof Gutswein makes a little concession to the drier side of Saar Riesling with what others would call feinherb on the label. Restraint in fruit means there is more room for spices and a little mineral dust to tingle the taste buds. (MS)
