Tasting Notes and Scores

94 AG

The 2011 Barolo Torriglione is bright, lifted and gracious, with plenty of expressive red-fleshed fruit underpinned by the nervous tannins that are such a signature of this site. Cinnamon, mint, white pepper, crushed rose petals and red berries are all beautifully delineated in the glass. Although quite young, the Torriglione is all class through and through. A kick of nervous, youthful tannin adds character on the finish. I very much like the precision here. The Torriglione is bottled in magnum only and replaces the Capalot in the Voerzio range. To be released in 2017.

Torriglione will be released as magnums only after five years of ageing in barrique. This relatively unknown cru is replacing Voerzio’s Capalot bottling after the lease of this vineyard came to an end in 2009.
Only mid ruby with orange tinges. Huge, peppery nose with bags of concentration. Notes of dried fruit and salted caramel. Very youthful and richly scented. Alcohol jumps right into the nose. Then the real surprise: energetic acidity and supple elegant palate. Richly tannic but finely sculpted. Great chew!
