Guado al Tasso was one of the cornerstones of the Super Tuscan movement and yet it lived in the shadows of Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Tignanello etc perhaps due to a certain sense of rusticity it occasionally showed. The modern face of Guado is much more polished and precise without losing any of that coastal wildness and this character holds true in the Bruciato, its bargain little brother. he Guado al Tasso estate is located in the small but prestigious Bolgheri DOC, on the coast of upper Maremma, about one hundred kilometers southwest from Florence. This appellation has a relatively recent history, DOC Bolgheri was approved in 1995 and since then it has become an internationally recognized reference point for the Italian and international winemaking arena. The family behind the estate is the esteemed Antinori family, their history stretches much further back than 1995. The Antinori family have been perfecting the art of winemaking for over six centuries since 1385 when Giovanni di Piero Antinori became a member, of the “Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri”, the Florentine Winemakers’ Guild. Twenty-six generations later and Albiera Antinori is at the helm of the wine empire, supported by her two sisters, Allegra and Alessia. Their father, Marchese Piero Antinori, is the current Honorary President of the company. It is a truly family affair.
