Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2020 Amor Costante keeps the glass swirling as dried violets, stone dust and exotic spices accentuate an enticing blend of wild berries and red plums. This is velvety smooth with medium-bodied weight, ushering in textural waves of red and blue fruits offset by sour citrus tones and saline-tinged acidity. It finishes long and structured with fine-grained tannins and a tart resonance of currants and licorice, yet the 2020 remains surprisingly fresh through it all. Patience will be required, yet also rewarded. What a treat. The Amor Costante is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Sangiovese from a Podernovone vineyard in the Sant’Antimo (southeast Montalcino). Only approximately 3,000 bottles of the 2020 Amor Costante IGT Toscana were made year as spring frosts and then a hot, dry summer reduced yields. The aromas and flavors of this 80% Merlot, 20% Sangiovese wine are of rich, ripe fruit such as black cherry and black raspberry in a dark, spicy yet joyfully fruity mode. There is a lovely texture and weight and the same signature of harmony and balance that you find throughout Gianni Brunelli’s wines. The tannins are very fine with a little savory, salty note. This is a very beautiful wine with lovely freshness, fine tannins and floral richness. Susan Hulme MW March 2023 The Wine Independent
Decanter
A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Sangiovese, the Gianni Brunelli Le Chiuse di Sotto 2020 Amor Costante offers nice richness with a medium-bodied approach that is woven tight with blackberry, wild plum, spice and sweet tobacco. That softness and texture comes from the Merlot, and the Sangiovese adds freshness and fresh cherry flavors. Only 2,360 bottles were made. ML March 2023
