The 2008 Testamatta Vigna di Lamole is made from a vineyard in the Lamole subsection of Greve near Querciabella and Poggio Scalette rather than vineyards in Fiesole as is typically the case. The wine offers up sweet dark cherries, flowers, licorice and tobacco in a medium-bodied, somewhat ethereal, fleeting style. Hints of tobacco and incense linger on the finish. Even though indicated on the label, using the Testamatta name and brand for a wine made from an entirely different site is a bit disingenuous in my opinion. The 2008 Testamatta, though certainly a good wine, is the qualitative equivalent of a good Chianti Classico, perhaps even a Riserva, but nothing more.
