Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Ugolaia is a stunning translucent ruby color in the glass with a classic bouquet to match. Here I’m finding fresh roses, ripe strawberry and crushed stone as well as shavings of cedar and hints of leather. This is incredibly pretty and feminine from start to finish, boasting textures like pure silk and a display of soothing red and hints of blue fruit. Inner violet tones linger long over a subtle layer of round tannins, yet the 2015 Ugolaia is already so pleasing that there’s no need to wait. EG
Antonio Galloni
On volcanic red soil, at 320 metres above sea level, Lisini’s Ugolaia plot represents the estate’s oldest vines. Ageing is in large Slavonian oak botti. Aromas of ripe raspberry and strawberry are interwoven with a compelling accent of iron ore. The palate is glossy with ample sweet fruit and luscious, velvety tannins giving it an expansive figure, while soft yet tangy acidity gives a revitalising boost. It finishes with cocoa-dusted orange. This is hard not to like and really quite approachable. Drinking Window: 2022 - 2035

Decanter
Fragrant aromas of incense and sandalwood lead to cherry, strawberry and kirsch flavors on the palate, underlined by dense tannins and a touch of mineral. It all comes together nicely on the long, fruit- and spice-tinged finish. Best from 2024 through 2042. 500 cases made, 165 cases imported. BS
