The blockbuster 2000 Galatrona (100% Merlot) struts its stuff in a flamboyant, exotic fashion. Its inky/ruby/purple color is accompanied by fabulous notes of melted chocolate, espresso roast, blackberry and cherry jam, licorice, and graphite. With superb purity, fabulous richness, and a full-bodied, layered palate, it could hold its own in a blind tasting with the finest Pomerols. This is truly remarkable stuff! Anticipated maturity: 2005-2018.

The elegant, reasonably priced 2000 Terre di Galatrona (70% Sangiovese and 30% Merlot) might be called a "mini-super Tuscan." It possesses ripe fruit, medium body, and sweet currant and strawberry characteristics with hints of earth and oak in the background. Enjoy it over the next 3-4 years.
