Tasting Notes and Scores
This vintage was cooler than average and fruit stayed on the vines longer, gaining in complexity and depth along the way. The 2010 Saffredi is a wine of deep inner tension, energy and power. The 2010 vintage has it all, especially for those looking for a classic profile from sunny southern Tuscany. I am impressed by how sharp and focused it remains so many years after the harvest. There are hints of granite and smoke along with plenty of dried blackcurrant. I'm extending the drinking window for this pretty vintage.

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 5% Syrah. There was cool, rainy weather throughout the year and a slow ripening of the grapes resulting in a delayed harvest. Luca D’Attoma was responsible for the final blend of the wine. Harvest between 15 September and 10 October. 30,000 bottles produced. Alluring sweet ink on the nose. Relatively subtle nose and then some dusty tannins on the end. Lots of energy and life. Rather lower key than some vintages, which is no bad thing. A bit closer to Bordeaux than Tuscany? (JR)
