Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2012 Orma is plump, juicy and quite expressive today. Blackberry jam, mocha, sweet spices and licorice are all woven together in a wine that typifies the textural resonance and plushness that make the wines of Maremma so appealing. Open and radiant, the 2012 will drink well upon release. Hints of sweet tobacco, licorice and herbs add the final shades of nuance.
Antonio Galloni
Lots of blackcurrants and blackberry aromas and flavors with hints of bark and mushrooms. Full-bodied, chewy and rich. A powerful red with plenty of structure and depth. This Bordeaux blend from Bolgheri is a challenger to Sassicaia and Ornellaia. Better in 2018.
James Suckling
Showing exceptional density and thickness, the 2012 Orma is a monumental red wine from Tuscany. The blend is 50% Merlot with Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc in supporting roles. Compared to the 2011 vintage, this edition of Orma shows tighter tannins and a longer aging potential. In fact, the wine presents itself as very young and tight at this moment. It is at the beginning of its evolution. If you love juicy, thick reds from Tuscany with dark fruit nuances, spice and chocolate, this wine is for you. (Monica Larner)
