Tasting Notes and Scores
Impressive aromas of blackberries, currants and flowers follow through to a full body with super-fine tannins and a long, long finish. Super-classy. Best ever Crognolo. Always great value. 90 per cent sangiovese and 10 per cent merlot. Better in 2016.
James Suckling
The 2011 Crognolo (Sangiovese with a small percentage of Merlot) shows lush, thick lines and a dark garnet appearance. This is a delicious and well-crafted Tuscan red that offers the fruit-forward style and soft extraction that defines the best of Tuscan winemaking. Rich tannins and deep layers of ripe fruit, blackberry, leather, tobacco and chocolate wrap smoothly over the palate. The 2011 vintage offers an especially soft interpretation that is perfect for near-term drinking. You feel a pinch of that Sangiovese acidity on the close. (Monia Larner)
