There wasn't really enough of this available to fit in this collection but once I tasted it I knew we had to have it. It's incredibly classy and whilst it's one of the more expensive wines in the range, it could pass for a top Hermitage tasted blind - so it's actually incredible value. A real don't miss wine. Keermont Vineyards began in 2001 when the Wraith family moved to the Western Cape from Gauteng. In 2003 they bought two adjacent farms which today are the home of the Keermont winery and vineyards. Mark Wraith lives on the farm with his wife Monica and their 4 children he is still heavily involved in the estate from strategic planning to tending to the vines and entertaining the guests during tastings. Over the last few years, the team have put a huge amount of time and effort into the development of new vineyards, a brand new winery and the positioning of the Keermont brand. The farm is situated high up in the picturesque Blaauwklippen Valley, otherwise known as Paradyskloof (Paradise Valley). The Blaauwklippen River, which bisects the farm, is also the boundary between the Helderberg and the Stellenbosch Mountain Range. Some of the vineyards are situated on the warmer north-facing Helderberg slopes and others are on the cooler west-facing Stellenbosch range. Sandwiched in between the two mountain ranges, the steepness of the terrain can be extreme with the altitude climbing an impressive 200m within the 1.7km length of the farm. Planted in 2006 the Topside Syrah vineyard is located at an elevation of 350m on the west-facing mid slopes of the Stellenbosch mountain range. Home to rocky, sandstone and granite soils the wines have a spicy character and fine tannin structure. The views from the top of this vineyard west to Table Mountain are simply breathtaking and the wine is equally as outstanding.
