Brick-edged red. Deeply pitched aromas of plum, strawberry, game, leather, damp earth and vanilla, plus an herbal nuance. Big, plummy and velvety-rich; concentrated, expressive flavors offer superb inner mouth sweetness. Harmonious acids lift the fruit. Very long, suave back end.

Deep orangey richness. Pungent and deep but lots of acidity, Lightly cheesy note. Needs a little more fatness, arguably. Long. This wine grew in the glass to eventually overtake the initially more showy 1999 white. (JR)
