Also going through malolactic and a similar 13 months of barrel age like the Freestone, but with slightly higher new oak, is the 2013 Chardonnay Pastorale Vineyard. This wine has more viscosity, and possesses tangerine and nectarine notes intermixed with orange blossom, a touch of subtle oak in the background, medium to full body and, again, terrific acidity. It’s a beauty and very Burgundian, with a hint of hazelnut that emerges as the wine sits in the glass. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.
