Robert's attainment of the Master of Wine title marks a significant milestone in his career, opening new opportunities for collaboration, education, and leadership within the wine industry. Now Fine Wine Buyer, with a particular specialism in the wines of Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône, Robert studied at the University of Cambridge before working at Bibendum for nearly 8 years. It was here, through travelling widely and working alongside many wine trade greats, that he quickly became responsible for the fine wine programme. In 2023, Robert joined the buying team at Bordeaux Index.
"The experience of studying for the Master of Wine has been both one of the most challenging and fulfilling experiences I’ve had. In studying for this, I had the chance to develop a network across the whole world of wine which is quite simply invaluable." - Robert Mathias, Wine Buyer
"The MW is just the start of a journey continuing to discover, share, and learn – the wine world does not stand still. At Bordeaux Index I will continue my specialism in the world of Bordeaux and French wine, but also want to keep innovating and finding new quality driven producers and regions." - Robert Mathias, Wine Buyer
The title of Robert's paper is: 'Sparkling assets? An analysis of the contributing factors behind the growth in value of the secondary market for investment level champagne from the 2002, 2008 & 2012 vintages.'
Congratulations Robert, from us all at Bordeaux Index!
