Our Story

Bordeaux Index began with the passion of a few wine and spirits lovers looking to change the way a wine merchant operates and redefine how wine is bought and sold across the globe.

Bordeaux Index has been Changing the Landscape since 1997, making the fine wine & spirits market more transparent, more accessible, and easier to trade. With an emphasis on an unparalleled client relationships and innovative technology, the early days saw yellow-page phone books used as temporary desks while wine orders were individually wrapped and shipped by hand. Our staff travelled the major wine regions of the world and created lasting relationships with those producing the finest of beverages. Backed by leading figures in finance, fine wine, and whisky, we are a unique hybrid of merchant and market leading trading platform.

With offices in London, Hong Kong, and Singapore, we have developed an unrivalled supply and global distribution network. We cater to a full spectrum of collectors, from those who want to curate exceptional cellars to investors whose focus is on wine and whisky as an alternative investment asset. LiveTrade, our pan market two-way trading screen, is by far the broadest fine wine buying platform in the industry and we also manage some of the largest private and institutional collections in the world. With half of Bordeaux Index’s revenue generated in Asia, we are one of the most influential merchants in this important region, from established markets in China, Taiwan and Japan, to the emerging markets in South East Asia.

We serve as the connecter between you, the client, and the greatest wines and spirits. Read our full story below.

Growing Up

Just 11 years on from being a company of 6 people, sitting on cases of wine, in a small, cramped office in Smithfield, Bordeaux Index had grown to a team of 30 and established itself as one of the UK's top wine merchants. Humble Beginnings

Humble Beginnings

Founders Gary Boom, Richard Mannell and Dylan Paris, along with future Director Sebastian Rowe quite literally set up Bordeaux Index's first office on St.John's Lane in London. Fax machines, mobile phones and good old fashioned Royal Mail were how wine was bought and sold back then, in between building desks and chairs for our fledgeling office. Creating an unrivalled customer relationship helped Bordeaux Index establish itself in the early days and remains a guiding principle today.
