Tasting Notes and Scores
Tasted at the Union de Grand Cru in London. The Latour-Martillac has a lovely ripe, dark plum and raspberry scented bouquet with touches of melted tar and tobacco. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity and very fine tannins. There is a touch of blood orange underneath the copious black fruit, whilst the finish has a slight tininess that should ebb away with time. Good potential here. Tasted November 2012.

The Latour-Martillac has a comparatively broody nose with tertiary, dark berried fruit, touches of black olive and sous-bois. Good definition and very natural. The palate is medium-bodied with assertive tannins on the entry, good weight, quite masculine with firm grip, dense blackberry, raspberry, cedar and graphite towards the finish. Good length. This should be very fine after bottling. Tasted April 2011.

IÂ love the mid-palate to this young and attractive red, with silky tannins and alluring mineral, berry and stone character. Enchanting.

Abundant notes of spicy oak, elegant black currants and rich fruitiness along with hints of forest floor and damp earth are followed by a medium to full-bodied wine with sweet tannin and the classic Pessac-Leognan/Graves characteristics of tobacco leaf and smoke. Deep fruit, moderate tannin and a long finish give this wine enough potential to last for up to two decades or more. Drink: 2013 - 2033

2010: The strongest vintage from Latour-Martillac since their 2005, this dense purple-colored 2010 offers up notes of black currants, graphite, smoke and earth. Deep and full-bodied with superb purity and moderate tannin, it is reminiscent of the 2005, which is just beginning to emerge from a dormant stage. Give the 2010 3-4 years of cellaring and drink it over the following two decades.

Quite ripe, with lots of plum, blackberry and blueberry fruit. Ample toast lends a slightly firm, compact feel on the finish for now, but the length and depth is there. —J.M.
