Tasting Notes and Scores
Tasted at Bordeaux Index’s “10-Year On” tasting in London. The Les Ormes de Pez ‘03 has a ripe generous bouquet with well-defined mint-tinged dark plum fruit with hints of cooked meat and dried herbs coming through. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and harmony. Overall, it comes across as very refined with mint-infused blackberry and raspberry notes that are very pure. There is a pleasant grainy texture and a classic, composed finish. This is a very good choice of 2003 and worth seeking out given the price. Tasted March 2013.

The Les Ormes de Pez 2003 has a complex nose with blackberry, tar, sous-bois and tobacco all tightly coiled at first, but unwinding nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with cedar-infused black fruit, tobacco and spice, leading to a rather linear, conservative finish, which leaves a pleasurable spicy tingle on the tongue after exiting. Tasted October 2010.

Moderately saturated ruby-red. Ripe blackberry and licorice aromas lifted by a violet note. Supple, sweet and dense, with pliant black cherry and floral flavors. Finishes reasonably lively and long. Fresh and impressive for this chateau.

A lightweight wine that is beginning to fade, this 2003 reveals notes of licorice, roasted herbs, loamy soil and washed-out red currants. St.-Estephe offerings tended to be impressive in 2003, but not this one. Drink it up.
