Tasting Notes and Scores
The 1947 Pichon Baron is deep in colour with a light tuile rim. Fragrant on the nose, it offers red fruit, rosehip syrup, dried rose petal and light liquorice aromas, fresh and vibrant considering the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins, gentle grip, not a fleshy or opulent 1947 like others, maybe even a little rigid. Fine weight and salinity, then after five minutes a strong eucalyptus note, with some volatility on the finish. Not as pure as the 1943, though improves in the glass. Tasted at the Pichon Baron Ancienne Millésime tasting.
