Tasting Notes and Scores

93-94 RP

A blend of 35% Cabernet Franc and 65% Merlot, Peter Sisseck's superb 2021 Rocheyron offers up aromas of wild berries and plums mingled with notions of vine smoke, exotic spices and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it's a tensile, vibrant wine of elegance and character, and I suspect that it will surpass several recent banner vintages in quality despite the less propitious growing season. This eight-hectare estate in Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes is characterized by high altitude and shallow clay soils over limestone, naturally delivering wines of energy and precision.
William Kelley, April 2022

Wine Advocate

93 DR

Plump ruby in colour, clear limestone character in its achingly slow scrape through the palate, turning the austerity into juice and moreish crushed rock minerality. This has been carefully made, skilfully extracted, focus on summer raspberry and loganberry fruits, with touches of mandarin peel and fennel. Always one of the most interesting, and under-rated wines in St Emilion, just a little subdued in this vintage. A strong candidate for upscore in bottle.
Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, May 2022

Decanter

90-92 NM

The 2021 Rocheyron, the joint venture from Peter "Pingus" Sisseck and Silvio "Lalique" Denz from essentially a carved-out limestone outcrop of Laroque, was cropped at 15hL/ha, October 2–13. It offers brambly red fruit on the nose, plus hint of scorched earth and balsamic, all gentle but well-defined. The palate is silky-smooth, pure and charming, with lightly spiced red fruit and a slightly ferrous finish. You could probably broach this after a couple of years.
