The 2009 Bonnes-Mares is cool, implosive and totally reticent. In other words, classic young Bonnes-Mares. Sweet red cherries, flowers and mint sit on a bright, sinewy frame that gradually relaxes just enough to release the wine's potential. There is more than enough verve and structure to support several decades of fine drinking. Today the blend of Dujac's holdings in Bonnes-Mares is approximately equally divided between terres rouges and terres blanches.

Tasted out of barrel at the Domaine. This has a lovely floral bouquet with touches of granite and dark berried fruit: blackberry leaf and a touch of dark plum. Good definition with a touch of violet developing. The palate is very tight and backward on the entry but it fans out beautifully towards the digestif finish and is very persistent in the mouth. Excellent. Tasted November 2010.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 02/05/2011 The 2009 Bonnes Mares is another explosive wine. Firm tannins support a huge core of dark fruit in this big, structured Burgundy. Dujac’s holdings in Bonnes Mares slightly favor the terres rouges and that quality seems to come through loud and clear in the wine’s intensity, depth and gravitas. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2039. This is a beautiful set of wines from Dujac. The harvest started on September 10 and ended on the 17th. Jeremy Seysses told me he wanted to pick on the early side in order to preserve freshness. In a similar vein, Seysses kept the fermentations short and gentle to avoid over-extracting. I also tasted a handful of 2008s, which are beautiful wines that are true to type and site. In 2008 the estate finished its conversion to fully organic farming originally started in 2001. Dujac fans have a lot to look forward to in these two vintages. ()

Don't miss! A remarkably fresh and expressive nose displays high-toned red berry fruit, earth and mineral aromas that give way to firm, serious and equally mineral-driven big-bodied flavors that offer excellent verve on the well-muscled and especially structured finish that seems to go on without end. This is not quite old school in basic character though it knocks on the door and like several of these grands crus, will need 20+ years to reach its full prime. Drink: 2029+

Dark red. Black raspberry, chocolate, menthol and herbs on the nose. Lush on entry, then medicinal and serious in the middle, with menthol and pepper elements currently overshadowing primary fruits. Not a particularly sweet style of 2009. This firmly structured, tannic, very backward wine will require at least several years of cellaring and should age slowly.
