Tasting Notes and Scores

93.5 ST

(from vines planted in 1957 on sandy soil near Clos de la Roche): Bright dark red. Alluring perfume of raspberry, flowers and minerals. Sweet but taut, combining a pliant texture and terrific inner-mouth energy. The wine's red fruit flavors are given added punch by a pungent mineral component. Finishes extremely long, with noble tannins. Looks to be a great vintage for this bottling. This site is better placed than Lignier's Charmes-Chambertin (actually Mazoyères) and often does spectacularly well in warmer years.

Solid and dense, from 1957 vines. Lots of undertow but the feet are definitely on the ground – without the lift and grace of the best Moreys. Muscular. A bit stolid. (JR)
