Healthy bright red. Smoky mineral lift to the aromas of raspberry, black cherry and flowers. Densely packed, sappy and extremely fine-grained, showing outstanding verve to its vibrant cherry and mineral flavors. The palate-drenching rising finish combines soil-driven salinity with the compelling sweetness of the vintage's best examples. For all its early sex appeal, this seemed to close down in the glass.

Outstanding. There is a touch of wood to the softly reduced nose where some spice elements are still discernable. There is good concentration to the velvety and lightly mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that brim with dry extract on the relatively austere and distinctly backward finish. I like the depth as well as the length and this should be lovely in time. Drink 2019+.

The 2012 Vosne-Romanee Village comes from two parcels in “Les Barreaux” and “Aux Communes”, the former representing a good 70% of the blend. It is actually one of the last cuvees to be harvested as it is a cool site. It has a tightly wound, slightly laconic bouquet that takes some coaxing from the glass, eventually offering black rather than red tertiary fruit. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, taut red berry fruit with a crisp, chalky structure towards the finish. This will probably need two or three years in bottle to really unfurl.

(domain wine; from the lieu-dit Les Barreaux): Bright, dark red. Musky, slightly reduced aromas of dark raspberry and spices. Supple but youthfully severe, showing little in the way of easy sweetness. Conveys a low-pH mouth feel. Not my favorite style.
