Tasting Notes and Scores
Elusive and ethereal, the 2013 Mazoyères-Chambertin captures the essence of this great site. Violets, lavender, sage, menthol and plums are all laced together in a deep yet weightless Burgundy endowed with stunning finesse and class. Today, the Mazoyères comes across as seriously tannic and closed, which is likely a good thing for the future.

Healthy dark red. Highly aromatic nose offers scents of raspberry, allspice, gingerbread and wild herbs, along with a hint of wildness. Concentrated and creamy in the mouth, conveying a strong savory character to the red berry, spice and underbrush flavors. This was vinified with 100% whole clusters but comes across as even sweeter than the Charmes. Finishes with smooth tannins and lovely perfumed persistence.

100% whole bunch but they remove the main stem. Leroy technique. Scented and spicy. A floral note. Very broad and sweet. Even this wine is charming and accommodating. No hint of excess acidity. Interesting heady lilies on the finish. Finishes just a little suddenly. (JR)
