The 2018 Chablis Preuses Grand Cru is sumptuous, racy and energetic with great Preuses character and nuance. It shows striking depth and seemingly endless layers of flavors that develop in the glass. Bright citrus, pear, crushed rock, slate and earthy notes race out of the glass in this undeniably sensual Chablis. The 2018 finishes with tremendous weight, texture and resonance; I loved it.

The 2018 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru is beautifully defined on the nose of dried honey, shucked oyster shell, rhubarb and peach skin, not quite as spicy as previous vintages but still very attractive. The palate is well balanced and linear in style, delineated on the entry, but then it kind of runs out of ideas midway through, so that the finish just lacks the fireworks one seeks in a great vineyard like Les Preuses. Maybe it will improve with bottle age, though my inclination is that this is a fine yet early-drinking Les Preuses.
