Tasting Notes and Scores
Very pale rose gold color. Incredible high-pitched nose combines strawberry, iodine, cinnamon, rose petal, minerals and earth. Almost painfully intense in the mouth, with a brilliant kernel of spicy fruit and pure minerally soil tones. With its bracing acids, this is distinctly austere today, yet the texture is remarkably fine-grained and there's great sweetness of fruit lurking. An essence of iodiney soil character; like a hypothetical blend of a great Montrachet and a Gevrey-Chambertin grand cru. I hesitate to score this rose even higher than Krug's great 1990 Clos du Mesnil, but this was the best bottle of Champagne I tasted this fall.

Krug Rose is a relatively new product from the Krug brothers. Their aim was to make a wine with a proper house-style, where the color was the only clue that it was a rose. The color is an extremely light salmon-pink, and the nose is definitely Krug! Their unmistakable symphony of full, complex aromas is backed up by a whiff of raspberry. The taste is tremendously austere and acidic, but less generous than a Grande Cuvee and definitely a wine to store.

Krug Rosé is a relatively new invention of the Krug brothers. Their goal was to make a wine with proper style house where the color would be only indication that there had been a rosé. The color is very pale salmon pink, the scent is definitely Krug! Their unmistakable symphony of heavy complex aromas are here backed by a sprinkle of raspberries. The taste is extremely tight and acidic, but less generous than Grande Cuvée and definitely a storage wine.

Marvelous. Burnished to an orange-gold color, this rosé evokes a complex palette of gingerbread, coffee, fig compote, orange peel and smoke flavors, all enmeshed in the supple texture and graceful harmony. Fades gently on the palate over the course of several minutes. Drink now through 2006. 500 cases imported.

The pale-colored NV Brut Rose wafts from the glass with dried red cherries, crushed flowers, spices and mint. There is good elegance in the mousse, but the aromas and flavors are a bit developed and mature. I imagine the Brut Rose is best enjoyed over the next few years, notwithstanding its relatively recent disgorgement in the Fall of 2011. This bottle carries ID Code: 311030. Disgorged: Fall 2011. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2014.
There are no new vintage wines from Krug, but is always interesting to revisit these wines as they develop so much over time. The biggest news at Krug is the addition of ID Codes to the NV wines, which gives readers the opportunity to get more information on the wines (including disgorgement dates) through Krug's website. It would be great to see more of the larger houses follow suit.(Antonio Galloni)
