Tasting Notes and Scores
Pol Roger remains Spurrierâs favourite champagne âby farâ, he said, and you can see why in this sublime, benchmark Blanc de Blancs. 2008 was an outstanding vintage in Champagne, and this draws it fruit from grand cru vineyards. Pol Roger prefer a more reductive style of winemaking than some houses, and this has produced a dry, fine and deliciously complex fizz, packed with elegant yellow and white fruits, nougat and brioche. It's still young, with great acidity, poise and length, but it has just started to drink well and will age superbly. John Stimpfig. November 2018.
Decanter
Great elegance and finesse already on the perfectly brilliant and aromatic nose shows Pol Roger's 2008 Blanc de Blancs Brut, displaying white and stewed apples with fine citrus flavors and discreet chalky aromas. The palate is dense and citric, as if limes and lemons are squeezed on a chalky rock. The purity, power and intensity is as remarkable, as is the finesse and persistence of the bubbles, the mousse on the palate and the long, persistent finish. Dosed with seven grams per liter, this extraordinary Blanc de Blanc Brut tastes drier than the Réserve Brut, but reveals a perfect ripeness of yellow fruits. The finish is lovely aromatic and intense, but also clear, fresh, firm and absolutely stimulating. This is a great Blanc de Blancs from the Grand Cru villages of Oiry, Chouilly, Cramant, Avize and Oger. Stephan Reinhardt. March 2016.
Wine Advocate
Ripe, pure and attractive chardonnay delivers a nose scented with peaches, lemons, cream, sweet pastry and subtly nutty notes. This is holding very fresh and still primary thanks to the stunning 2008 vintage. The palate's packed with flavor and a really excellent depth of white peach and lemon curd character. The acidity rules the finish and holds it long. Drink now and easily through to 2025; this is a long-term Champagne! October 2016.
James Suckling
Some charred, evolving ageing aromas with cardamom, apple pie, cinnamon and bitter almond. Plenty of character but some dull, bruised notes too. Plush and weighty palate for a blanc de blancs, oily viscous texture, still coming with searing acidity. By 9/2016 it has developed a generous buttery character to it and started to reach a sensible drinking age. September 2016.

Pol Roger's 2008 Blanc de Blancs is a very pretty, expressive Champagne to drink now and over the next handful of years. White orchard fruit, sage, pastry and candied lemon peel open up nicely in the glass. This is an especially creamy, voluptuous 2008, although the acidity of the vintage comes through nicely on the back end.
