The 2007 stands out for its finessed texture and impeccable overall balance. I can't remember a more polished, elegant vintage of Altero. Poggio Antico hit it out of the park. The 2007 spent 24 months in 500-liter French oak tonneaux. Drink: 2017 - 2027

Good full red. Very pure but subdued aromas of raspberry, rose petal and spices, along with a suggestion of chocolate. Then almost surprisingly plush and sensual on the palate, and distinctly sweeter than the 2007 classico, showing a flavor of cherry liqueur. Extract-rich and dense in texture without betraying any heaviness. Finishes with excellent spine and thrust and good medicinal reserve. This will need time to absorb its serious dusting of tannins.
