Tasting Notes and Scores
(14% alcohol): Good full ruby-red. Captivating nose of sweet red cherry, cinnamon, mocha and marzipan. Then sweet, suave and dense in the mouth, with superripe red cherry and strawberry pie flavors complicated by aromatic herbs, cinnamon and almond syrup. The finish is long and creamy, with smooth tannins, lively acidity and a peppery bite that adds further complexity. Very well done: this is one of the best Brunellos of the vintage. While Caparzo's entry-level Brunello has had its ups and downs over the years, La Casa (one of the first single-vineyard Brunellos in Montalcino) has always been one of the safest bets in all of Brunello land. I have had, and in fact still own, every vintage ever made of this wine (one of the first Brunellos to be aged in barriques, although today it's aged in a mix of tonneaux and larger barrels). I'm happy to report that the 2007 is one of the best ever made. (Ian D'Agata)

Subtle aromas of flowers and blueberries with hints of cherries follow through to a full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a subtle mineral, dried flower and berry character. Chewy. Structured yet refined. Better in 2016. Hard to decide which is better for La Casa -- 2006 or 2007. Both are best since legendary 1997.

The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna La Casa (from tank) is considerably fresher and more vibrant than the straight 2007. Dark red cherries, flowers, mint, licorice and spices are all woven together beautifully in this vibrant, expressive Brunello. I especially like its energy. La Casa was aged for one year in French oak barriques followed by two years in 30-hectoliter French oak casks. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. AG
This is another strong showing from Caparzo, a historic estate that seems to be making a comeback after a period of good but not great wines.
Wine Advocate
Moderately saturated bright medium red. Redcurrant, plum and mocha on the slightly diffuse nose and palate. Supple, smooth and moderately sweet, with decent concentration and grip. Finishes with light, dusty tannins and hints of spices and flowers. Cleanly made but lacks the flavor authority and thrust for a higher score.
