Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is rich, open-knit and inviting. Sweet tobacco, herbs, licorice, menthol sage and earthy notes meld together as this mid-weight yet enveloping Brunello opens up in the glass. Although the 2011 offers lovely density and textural richness, the flavors are a touch forward for a young wine, while the alcohol is at times pronounced. I would prefer to drink the 2011 sooner rather than later. Lisini gave the 2011 42 months in medium-sized casks.

The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a delightful expression of Sangiovese that does justice to the grape and the unique Montalcino farming environment. This a clean and beautifully polished red wine that reveals very precise tones of wild berry, dried raspberry and blue flower. Spice and freshly tilled earth also appear. The fruit is integrated and bright despite the warm vintage conditions. The finish is long and the tannins are polished and silky.

Tasted blind. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Vivid Sangiovese nose with orange zest and cherry. Delicious tangy strawberry fruit. Elegant, long and ripe. (WS)
