Casa Ferreirinha is the pioneer brand and leader in Douro table wines, with a history of more than 250 years, always in family hands. Barca-Velha, Casa Ferreirinha’s “grand vin” and Portugal’s most iconic red wine, was the first of a new wave of table wines coming out of the Douro, putting the region (back) on the map for fine non-fortified wines. The main source of grapes for Barca-Velha – which has always been a blend from multiple vineyard sites – is now Casa Ferreirinha’s flagship estate Quinta da Leda, where this wine comes from. Both Quinta da Leda and Barca-Velha are made in a very similar way. The main difference is the amount of new French oak in which the wines are aged, with Quinta da Leda seeing less (around 50% new oak).
