This is an extraordinary house that seems to have been particularly successful with its vintage port since 1977.The 1980 is very, very good and certainly better than what this house produced in 1975 and 1970. It should mature relatively fast and be ready to drink by 1992.

Second bottle. Mid-deep garnet. Fragrant and somewhat brandied nose, with fresh herb tones and layers of rich, dried black fruit. Supple and fruity on the palate, and its tannins are well resolved. Attractive, spicy length with a juiciness. (TJ)

Healthy crimson with a deep garnet rim. Light putty nose. Tastes like claret! Relatively dry. Great balance but not that sweet. Very stylistically dry and different. (JR)
