Vin de Constance always has a truly captivating nose and the 2012 is no exception. Astonishing levels of baked pear, fresh pastry, apricot, quince and marmalade are lifted by sweet floral notes which balance the fruit out perfectly, never becoming blousy or cloying. The palate is immediately sweet and unctuous but mouthwatering, with awesome acidity that leaps into action before the palate ever gets too rich; this captures the immense purity and precision of the fruit and keeps it lingering long in the mouth. The 2012 Vin de Constance won’t be released for another year, but put a note in your diary to buy some when it is. Sweeter and more alcoholic than the 2011, but somehow fresher and brighter, too, it’s floral, pure and focused, with notes of orange zest, tarte tatin and well integrated oak. Shaping up to be the best Vin de Constance yet.

Starting with a kiss of volatility, the 2012 Vin de Constance Natural Sweet Wine has a medium gold core and notes of apricot marmalade. Displaying impressive weight with notions of dried orange peel, the palate shows a medium to full-bodied dessert wine with impressive texture and succulent mouthfeel that's incredibly pleasing and graceful. With a balanced structure and sweet-fruited core, the Vin de Constance is approachable now and will drink well for the next 10+ years. I'd like to see a touch more acidity to push my score higher and drink dates even further into the future.
