Light, bright yellow. Intense, mineral-accented citrus and orchard fruit aromas are complicated by notes of iodine, anise and white flowers. Puts on weight with air and offers pliant orange and pear flavors with a touch of refreshing bitterness. Closes silky and very long, with repeating spiciness and minerality. May 2014

Succulent yellow peaches, apricots, graphite, smoke and honey are some of the notes that blossom in the 2012 Chardonnay Hanzell Vineyard. This is the most boisterous and exuberant of the 2012 Chardonnays from Lioco. The fruit was picked in mid-August, which helped preserve a measure of freshness. Jan 2015

Mealy, biscuity and ripe. Lovely tart citrus fruit, but seems slightly light for the premium. There is a good deal of bitter citrus concentration on the finish, though – perhaps that will evolve into something more interesting with time? Drink 2016 – 2022
