Tasting Notes and Scores
Tasted single blind at Southwold. Reticent on the nose: dense tarry black fruits, touches of roasted herbs and graphite. Nice purity though and that opens up with aeration, allowing more figgy/damson aromas to show through. The palate is full-bodied, good ripeness and fruit concentration, good acidity, backward and dense but with assertive black tarry fruit on the finish. Could only be a Saint Estephe. Showing great precision and charm but it will need time. Drink 2015-2030. Tasted January 2009.

Mature red; ripe and savoury to smell; fresh, gently tannic, medium full wine, very nice Cru Bourgeois balance; brisk, juicy, ripe fruited lesser claret, robust, straightforward, satisfying, and with very good length. Very fair value. Now to 22

A somewhat monolithic, one-dimensional effort from one of my favorite St.-Estephe estates, the medium-bodied, fruity 2005 Les Ormes de Pez exhibits sweet black currant, damp earth, and fresh mushroom-like characteristics. It should be consumed over the next 7-8 years.
