Attractive nose with fresh leather, blueberries and vanilla. Nutmeg, chocolate and cedar. Full and super round with smooth polished tannins and excellent fruit. Long finish with licorice and soft mineral notes. Wonderful wine that will drink well from 2016.

Lots of dark fruits with intense leather and spices on the nose. Full body, with super fine tannins and lovely fruit. Goes on for a long time.

Tasted twice both in London and in Bordeaux, the Berliquet 2010 has a ripe nose of small dark cherries, quince and just a hint of crème de cassis, the oak needing more time to fully integrate. The palate is medium-bodied with an attractive, minerally entry. I like the delineation and symmetry here, the finish very well poised and long. I hold up my hands: I under-estimated this out of barrel: this is a great wine from the estate. Tasted November 2012.

There is a touch of over-ripeness on the nose with blueberry jam, mulberry and soy. Moderate definition. The palate is medium-bodied with toasty oak on the entry, low acidity, quite savoury thanks to the Cabernet Franc towards the finish. Not bad. Tasted April 2011.

There are seductive aspects to this wine, including ripe black cherry and raspberry fruits as well as nice glycerin, body and fleshiness, but the toasty oak comes through in a rather glaring fashion and the tannins also pick up in the finish, providing a slight astringency to this otherwise well-made wine. It probably needs a few more months at minimum to settle down in the bottle.

2010: A strong effort from Berliquet, the 2010 was fashioned from yields of 23 hectoliters per hectare by the managing consultant, Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt. Composed of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, it offers copious aromas of sweet kirsch liqueur, underbrush, plums and black cherries. This mineral-laced, deep, medium to full-bodied, moderately tannic, broad, savory St.-Emilion exhibits more power and depth than past vintages. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.
